A painter of genre, figures and still lifes, a furniture designer and a leading figure in Art Nouveau, he is above all one of the world's best-known ceramists and master glassmakers. Fascinated by glass decoration from an early age, he studied art in Weimar and opened a glassworks in his native city in 1874, along with the famous Ecole de Nancy, one of the origins of Art Nouveau. In addition to his inexhaustible passion for glass, Emile Gallé was also a very interesting painter, leaving behind a few rare genre paintings and some very interesting still lifes.
