MARESTÉ Georges Jules known as Géo MARESTÉ (1875-1940)
The tavern
Set comprising an ink on paper with an annotation "Esquisse pour le Prélude de Pan de Jean Giono" (31 x 23.8 cm), a drawing on tracing paper, a reproduction on tracing paper (26.7 x 20.5 cm) and three etching prints of the same subject, one of which is entitled Solitude de la Pitié de Giono, Prélude de Pan (subject size: 13.9 x 14.3 cm - sheet size: 33 x 23.5 cm).
(folds and tears, foxing and stains)
Note: Probably a study for the text Prélude de Pan published in Jean Giono's collection Solitude de la pitié. In bibliophily, this book was illustrated by Jean Jansem. A letter dated December 5, 1934 attests to this collaboration between author and artist. The project between Jean Giono and Georges Maresté was therefore aborted.
