After his accident, he gathers his memories of the beginning of the war, in Dijon, then Belfort, where he met up with his old comrades: Caron, Sadi Lecointe... He lists his comrades killed or taken prisoner. Then he recounts the story of the Châlons camp, where he had gone to pick up a Blériot aircraft (two-seater 80 Hp); but it was destroyed before he arrived, the Boche being at Mourmelon. He left, leaving behind the sabotaged aircraft... Etc.
