(2 as "géographe ordinaire du Roi" and one as "ci-devant Géographe ordinaire du Roi"), [circa 1780?]-1815, to publisher Charles-Joseph Panckoucke or collaborators; 8 1/2 pages in-4, 4 addresses. On his Encyclopédie méthodique. Géographie moderne (3 vols., Panckoucke, 1782-1788). To Charles-Joseph Panckoucke. September 27, 1780, to "Je viens d'obtenir en communication les archives, titres et chartres du fameux Royaume d'Yvetot, article de Geographie qui n'avoit jamais été éclairci, et je donnerai la dessus un morceau tout à tout à neuf"; he intends to correct "gross faults" in the old encyclopedia... January 16, 1781: "The work to be done on the Geographical part of the Encyclopedie is triple, at least, that on which I was counting. Instead of a work to be corrected, to be retouched, it is a work to be remade"; he would therefore like "to have the prospect of a copy of the Encyclopaedia"... May 13. On his efforts to hasten the production of their volumes; he quotes an extract from his proposal to the Marquis de Villette to "provide the Encyclop. with Ferney art"... June 9, 1781, to M. Plassant, asking him to send him the volume of the Encyclopédie in-8° containing the Neuchâtel article, and to enclose a proof of the Encyclopédie prospectus: "it is important that I review the article concerning my part"... May 24, 1815, to bookseller Hector Agasse (Panckoucke's son-in-law and associate): "Following this uninterrupted series of upheavals which for 25 years have been tormenting the globe and in particular our Europe, our Encyclopaedia's Geographical Dictionary will find itself quite old: it will be in great need of rejuvenation"...
