Exchange of botanical works with the plant garden in Madrid, which until 1823 had been run by the botanist Mariano Lagasca y Segura.
He sends his correspondent "the collection of what I have had printed, to be given to Monsieur Lagasca [or his successor]. My main aim is to procure two Spanish works on agriculture and botany. One is an edition by Herrera which serves as the basis for a general collection of all Spanish agronomic authors in five volumes in 4° (I believe). The other is the text of the manuscripts concerning the plants of Mexico brought back by Hernandez, sent by Philip II, whose first physician he was [...]. Only an abridged version appeared in Rome in 1651. But a copy of its manuscripts having been found by D. Muñoz in Seville, it was printed by Ibarra in 1791 by the care of Ortega. At the time, there were 3 vol. in 4° or rather in f° [...]. The original manuscripts with the figures painted in Mexico were on display in the Escorial Library, but fell prey to a fire in 1671"...
