On April 17, 1964, Ford presented its Mustang at the New York World's Fair, reinventing the automobile for young baby-boomers bored with big, heavy, massive cars. Instead of making yet another version of an existing car, Ford put the pony car concept on wheels. Initially created as a two-seater coupe in the purest European tradition, the manufacturer realized that success depended largely on sales volume; so, to save development costs, the first versions were based directly on the Ford Falcon wagon. The Mustang was then fitted as standard with a 2.8-liter in-line 6-cylinder engine. In 1965, the engine's displacement was increased to 3.2 L, giving it a further 120 HP. Our 1966 coupé version sold 499,751 units. The recipe for success is simple: a mass-produced base and mechanical components, dressed up with a sportier, more modern body and an endless list of options to make your Mustang unique. Ours features a 4-seat pony-skin interior, optional trunk release and hubcaps. A sure bet in the Mustang collection, it's easy to maintain thanks to its many remanufactured parts.
