The subject of this painting is taken from the Old Testament (Book of Exodus, 32,2): Moses, having led his people out of Egypt
out of slavery in Egypt, climbs Mount Sinai to listen to God. Immediately, the
Hebrews urge Aaron, Moses' brother, to build them an idol of gold, similar to the Apis bull of the Egyptians.
