And a very useful treatise on hunting. Par F. F. F. R. D. G. dit le Solitaire inventif. Paris, Charles de Sercy, 1688, in-4, with 66 full-page wood-engraved plates (9 of which folding). Fawn-colored basane, spine ribbed, title page (19th c. binding). Staining at the bottom of the first few pages and in the margins of pages 185-377, tear on page 89-90, without loss of lettering. This is the second edition of this famous work (the first dates from 1660), with exactly the same iconography, in a very archaic style both in terms of technique (woodcutting was hardly used at the time outside of trade or popular works), and for the depiction of traps, weapons and other instruments. Thiébaud, 408-409.
