14- [CAPTAINCIES]. - Édit du Roi, portant suppression de la capitainerie de Chambor [= Chambord]. Donné à Versailles au mois de septembre 1777. Paris, P. G. Simon, 1777, in-4, 4 pp. in folio.
Rare. When the capitaineries were created in 1542, the Chambord estate was assigned a captain and three guards who had authority over hunting and the waters and forests of the County of Blois. They retained their prerogatives over forestry and timber exploitation. However, they had little control and indulged in numerous abuses against peasants and local residents: they were said to be very violent. This is one of the reasons why the Royal Captaincy of Chambord disappeared in 1777.
Thiébaud, 150. In CCF, copies only in BnF, Amiens and Blois.
