The Melted Horse
Aubusson tapestry
Late 17th century
4.05 x 2.75 m
Les Jeux et plaisirs de l'enfance (Games and pleasures of childhood) was invented and designed by Jacques Stella (1596 - 1657); his niece Claudine Bouzonnet-Stella (1636 - 1697) engraved this suite, whose pleasurable subjects inspired cartoonists (1).
Woven in wool and silk (wool warp, wool and silk weft), the tapestry has preserved its original colors quite well. It is framed by a border decorated with fruit and flowers. It was cleaned in 2003. It shows some wear and tear. It has probably been reduced in height.
