The Assumption of the Virgin Mary
Flemish tapestry, probably Bruges circa 1620
H.207cm x 194cm
Woven in wool and silk
The Virgin rises into the sky, surrounded by cherubs, while on the ground, the apostles kneel around the empty tomb, gazing heavenward. Saint Peter can be recognized by the keys at his side.
This beautiful fragment still retains its vivid colors. However, it shows some tearing, restoration and discoloration.
