American Modernism Pop Art Robert Rauschenberg o.T., from: Hommage á Picasso. 1973. offset lithograph, serigraph, solvent transfer and embossing on Arches-Velin (w. watermark). 75,8 x 56,3 cm (76,3 x 57 cm). Signed, dated, numbered and inscribed "A.P.", in the lower margin with the blind stamp of the printer Graphicstudio, University of South Florida, Tampa, this verso with the numbering "U.S.F. 187" and a copyright and three other blind stamps. Mounted in spots under passepartout on verso. - Barely visible in margins and slightly irregularly lightly browned on verso, handling trace in spots, overall good. Excellent, experimental print of the almost full-format image. No longer with Foster. - Serial unique as one of 30 artist's copies outside the edition of 90 as well as 30 Roman numbered prints. - Published by Propylaen-Verlag, Berlin and Pantheon Press, Rome. - From the 69-piece portfolio "Hommage á Picasso." - In collaboration with the Graphicstudio U(niversity) of S(outh) F(lorida), the artist created a series of prints in the early 1970s that thematized newspaper clippings, pages, and snippets in variant repetition. Like a playful series, Rauschenberg draws on the widespread medium of the newspaper to create a critical image of everyday life in which the various events break over one another like a collage. The artistic realization follows the different levels of content seamlessly, the technical levels intertwine in a graduated manner. Offset lithograph, screenprint, solvent transfer and embossing on Arches wove paper (with watermark). Signed, dated, numbered and indicated "A.P.", with the printer's blindstamp in lower margin, Graphicstudio, University of South Florida, Tampa, on the verso with numbering "U.S.F. 187" as well as a copyright- and three additional blindstamps. Mounted to mat at top on the verso. - Hardly visible browned in margins and lightly irregularly browned on the verso, isolated grip trace, all in all good. Excellent, experimental impression of the almost format-filling depiction. - Artist proof aside the edition of 90 as well as 30 Roman numbered copies. - Published by Propylaen-Verlag, Berlin and Pantheon Press, Rome. - From the 69-parted portfolio "Hommage á Picasso". - In collaboration with the Graphicstudio U(niversity) of S(outh) F(lorida), Rauschenberg creates a series of graphic works in the early 1970s which thematises newspaper cuttings, pages and snippets in varied repetition.
