Cy Twombly
o.T. 1973. color offset lithograph on vellum board. 74 x 56 cm (76 x 56 cm). Monogrammed and numbered. - Edges slightly bumped in spots. At the lower margin a light stain. Overall good. Excellent, strong impression with narrow margins.
Bastian 40th - One of 150 copies. - Published by ZEITmagazin Verlag, Hamburg and Propyläen Verlag, Berlin 1974 - Printed by Tipografia Poliglotta di Vaticano, Rome. - Based on a drawing by Twombly that refers to works from the series "Gladings (Love's Infinite Causes)." - A system of signs permeates Cy Twombly's work. Writing and forms always form a symbiosis with the aim of representing the inexpressible with pictorial means and bringing it to life. The works have no beginning and no end. Rather, they are to be understood as a spatially and temporally coherent continuum that combines references to what has been and what is happening, such as antiquity and historical events, with the supratemporal, such as love and existence, proximity and space, resulting in instantaneous, seismographic traces.
