Bust with Trajan private portrait. Bust 19th century / head around 110 AD. Total height 78 cm. On a modern profiled pedestal sits a bust, also modern, made of gray marbled Carrara marble. It is made in antique style, dressed in a toga contabulata in the fashion of the 3rd century A.D. The antique portrait head reaches only just below the chin. Depicted is a venerable Roman of advanced age with thin hair combed forward. Nose completed. From Hofberg Castle near Landshut. Formerly the property of the Counts Arco. The head hair is combed forward in fine, parallel lines into the forehead and corresponds to the contemporary fashion hairstyle, which was dictated by the respective ruler. Thus, the chronological classification of the head is given, which completely follows the model of the Emperor Trajan - even if the sitter obviously had less hair at his disposal than the Emperor in his official portraits.
