WISIGOT FIBER in the form of a stylized eagle, "aquiliform", facing left. Cloisonné assembly of red- and blue-tinted colored glass in a geometric network of welded partitions inside a copper-alloy case. The central part in oval relief of an oval glass tinted with a light green, set like a cabochon. Visigothic art, late 5th century. Height: 7.7 cm - Width: 4.4 cm (Missing pin, corrosion, visible accidents and minor damage) Few archaeological objects are as emblematic of barbarian peoples in the collective imagination as these eagle-shaped fibulae. Their sophisticated decoration and the symbolic significance attributed to the eagle have fired the imagination of researchers, who have long regarded them as signs of prestige, or even insignia of power, for the Goth aristocracy. COMPARISONS - The "Lady of Domagnano" fibulae in the Louvre Abu Dhabi [LAD 2009.008] and in the Nüremberg Germanisches Nationalmuseum [FG1608]. - Pair of aquiliform fibulae from the Castelsagrat treasure in the Musée de Cluny [CL3479 and CL3480]. - Pair of Tierra de Barros fibulae in the Walters Art Museum, Baltimore [54.421 and 54.422].
