A letter from Jean-Jacques Fernier dated July 22, 2007 will be given to the buyer.
In his appraisal report, Jean-Jacques Fernier explains that the work "denotes, by its subject -the Bremen brook-, and by its treatment, -a rather dense pictorial layer largely applied with a brush and the addition of a painting knife, a pictorial technique learned in Courbet's environment". The expert also points out that the work was produced in 1873 under Gustave Courbet's direction by Cherubino Pata, Courbet's close collaborator, when he joined him in Ornans in early 1873, before the Master's exile to Switzerland, where he followed him.
