Fatma with black turban and jewelry, Biskra Original oil on canvas 16.4 x 14 cm Signed upper right F Bouchor An old handwritten label on the stretcher rail reads Fatma Biskra JFBouchor 40 Rue Guynemer Paris 6 e. An active painter in Paris, it was only after the First World War that he made a long journey from Egypt to Morocco via Algeria, during which time he became close to Orientalist painters. It was at this point that this artist diversified his subjects, offering portraits, but above all depicting the cities he visited. He illustrated several books, including Le Maroc by the Tharaud brothers and Marrakech dans les palmes by André Chevrillon. His work Meknes, Bab El Mansour is part of this dynamic, alongside L'Oued Sefrou, painted around 1930 and now in the Musée d'Orsay (RF 1977 95).
