The art of the Venetian Canella stems
from the great tradition of Veduta,
18th-century genre devoted to the depiction of cities and their animated
perspectives. Canella traveled throughout Europe in the 1820s,
particularly in Paris, where he met with great success at the
Salon de Peinture and with King Louis-Philippe d'Orléans.
d'Orléans. In these two small miniature paintings, the painter
painter offers us a tasty and refined picture of the
Parisian streets around 1830, with their boulevards, theaters
its markets, its popular and elegant bustle.
