Around 1875, Antonin Mercié created the statuettes Danse du ventre and Danse du sabre after Jean-Léon Gérôme's painting L'Almée presented at the 1864 Salon (now at the Dayton Art Insti- tute). The bronze execution of these sta- tuettes is entrusted to the Goupil firm.
