From 1847 to 1879, Henri-Alfred Jacquemart exhibited a number of animal groups at the Salon, making his name. He received several commissions from the City of Paris, and made a name for himself at the 1878 Universal Exhibition with the famous Rhinoceros, now preserved on the esplanade of the Musée d'Orsay.
