"Le Retour de Foire" attributed to J.F. Demay French school 2nd quarter of the 19th century Oil on canvas Dimensions of the view : Height. : 27 cm ; Width : 35 cm Dimensions with frame : Height 40.5 cm; Width: 49 cm Charming painting depicting a typical scene of peasant life, the return from a fair with characters dancing around a wagon. Biography : Born in 1798 in Mirecourt (Meurthe-et-Moselle), died in 1850 in Paris, Jean-François-Louis Demay was a painter specializing in genre scenes and landscapes. A self-taught artist, Demay took part in the Paris Salon from 1827 to 1846. He painted lively scenes of markets, fairs, fairs and country life during the Restoration period (1815-1830). Museology: Works by Jean-François Demay are nowadays held in private collections as well as exhibited in renowned museums, such as the Musée Magnin in Dijon, with an oil on panel entitled "La dernière étape" (Inv. 1938 F 266), or the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux, with a painting on canvas entitled "Paysage", dated 1829 (Inv. Bx E 714; Bx M 6553).
