An important portico clock in white marble, black marble and two-tone gold chased and gilded bronze. It is composed of pillars supporting a drum in which is included the movement, topped by the figure of Athena. Rectangular base resting on eight spinning top feet and a counter-socle supported by four spinning top feet. White enameled dial with Arabic numerals signed Degré in Paris, wire movement.

Jean-Baptiste Degré was awarded the title of Master Watchmaker in Paris in 1778. He practiced on rue de Vaugirard and then rue de la Montagne Sainte-Geneviève from 1783.
