In 1998 Hermann Nitsch's theatrical work culminated in the six-day production of an Orgien Mysterien Theater. This event is so significant that Nitsch himself makes no mention in his biography of the following five years of his life until his 2003 retrospective at the Essl Museum. He devoted this time to active art-making and experimented with etching and serigraphy, among other things. For the present print, he used terragraphy, a technique developed in Israel in which fine desert sand is mixed into the ink, resulting in a unique tactile feel to the print surface.
