Cartier, platinum ring set with an unheated cushion-cut Burmese ruby weighing 2.065 carats according to SSEF report n°128716 dated 24/04/2023, set with shield-cut diamonds, signed, numbered 1066, finger 57-17The most famous origin for rubies is Burma. Renowned for over 15 centuries, this is historically the most important provenance. Considered the source of the best colors, some stones are even called "pigeon blood" for the most intense reds. The maharajahs, illustrious lovers of Burmese rubies, loved to adorn their arms, tableware and thrones with them, as did the famous "Black Prince's Ruby", mounted on the British imperial crown. Scarcity coupled with civil and political instability since 1960 has made Burmese rubies scarce on the market. Today, the majority of rubies from Myanmar are treated, making untreated stones like the Burmese ruby on this Cartier ring exceptional.
