Empire style chest of drawers, made of mahogany and gilded bronze, circa 1880. Five drawers with garlanded hardware, key locks and decorated lock escutcheons,
on hemispherical legs and top board in dark stone. The front is flanked by two stipes with a female capital under a vegetal motif and a base resembling women's feet. It is made of mahogany palm and the fittings are made of high quality gilded bronze.
Details such as the purity of the lines of the furniture, its geometric forms, the presence of caryatids, the centralization of the relief in the gilded bronze fixtures, the use of mahogany and the inspiration in classical Greco-Roman Antiquity, place this piece within the Empire style. Quality in its wood and bronze, both in its reliefs and in the gilding. These French metallic ornaments were the best considered in cabinetmaking for their quality, due to the rigid control established by the central power over the guilds responsible for their production, in which the specialization of the different workshops necessary for their creation and subsequent sale to master cabinetmakers stands out.
