HENRYK STAżEWSKI (1894-1988) Relief nr. 14, 1973 Acrylic on panel Signed, titled and dated on the back Acrylic on fiberboard; signed, titled and dated on the reverse 60 x 60 cm - 23 5/8 x 23 5/8 in. - - PROVENANCE Acquired directly from the artist Collection Achille Perilli, Italy - - NOTE Painted in 1973, Relief nr. 14 comes directly from the collection of the master of Italian abstract art, Achille Perilli, who died two years ago. This work, which was given to him by Henryk Stażewski and which he kept for more than forty years, testifies to the friendship and mutual admiration between the two artists. It was during the exhibition devoted to Perilli in Warsaw in 1969 at the Foksal Gallery, founded three years earlier by a group of critics and artists including Stażewski, that they had met. From then on, Perilli would remain closely linked to the Polish avant-garde gathered at the Foksal Gallery and even initiated an exhibition at the Palazzo delle Esposizion in Rome in 1979, entitled "L'avanguardia polacca 1910-1978" which included several works by Stażewski. - Painted in 1973, Relief nr. 14 comes directly from the collection of the master of Italian abstract art, Achille Perilli, who died two years ago. Offered to him by Henryk Stażewski himself, he kept it for more than forty years which testifies to the friendship and mutual admiration between the two artists. They met at the occasion of the exhibition devoted to Perilli, in Warsaw in 1969, at the Galeria Foksal, founded three years earlier by a group of critics and artists including Stażewski. From then on, Perilli remained closely linked to the Polish avant-garde gathered around the Galeria Foksal and was also the initiator of an exhibition entitled "L'avanguardia polacca 1910-1978" at the Palazzo delle Esposizion in Rome in 1979, where several works by Stażewski were included.
