Descent from the cross in alabaster carved with gold highlights; on a scroll base, skull and bones. South America, Peru, 18th century H. 29,5 cm (small accidents and repairs) Huamanga stone is an Andean alabaster used in the colonial period to produce altarpiece figures, sculptures for domestic use or small stoup. The use of polychromy is especially noted for the old sculptures of the 17th century; in the 18th century the coloring with oil is abandoned in favor of gold highlights.
