Chest of drawers. Italy, late seventeenth century - pps. s.XVIII. In walnut wood, marquetry of lemongrass. Measurements: 133 x 72 x 96 cm. (closed); 140 cm.(open top). Chest of drawers with desk of baroque style and period, made in walnut wood, with marquetry of lemon grass. It has a sinuous profile that determines an elevation based on concavities and convexities, typically Baroque. However, symmetry is rigorously respected. The beautiful wood grain harmonises with the lemongrass vegetal marquetry that runs through the four drawers of the chest of drawers. The design of the upper body, with its hinged lid, matches the sinuous cut-out of the sides. The typically baroque chamfered corners also follow a design based on curves and counter-curves, like mitres. The strict compartmentalisation of the structure merges with a rich vegetal ornamentation that tends to unify the structures, and to conceal them through this decoration. Small drawers are concealed both inside the upper body and on the sides. It is also worth noting the importance of the iron fittings, in the keyhole escutcheons on each drawer, decorated with birds.
