Fidelys Schey was a French furniture maker based in Faubourg Saint-Antoine, Paris. In spite of the brevity of his career, he made a lot of Transitional and Louis XVI style furniture of very good quality. He quickly made a name for himself, which enabled him to work for the Crown's furniture guard, delivering in 1786 a set of gaming tables for the Fontainebleau. An 18th-century French drum desk in mahogany, dating from the 18th century, in the Directoire style. It has a clear and balanced structure, standing on four typically neoclassical legs in the form of stylised fluted columns that narrow towards the base. The front houses eight drawers (three at the top and five at the bottom) and a hinged drum, all of which have separate locks. The inside of the drum has a further six drawers, this time of smaller dimensions, all of which are fitted with handles, and a pull-out tray with mat, acting as a writing surface. Two other trays are pulled out from the sides of the cabinet. The sample follows the same neoclassical criteria of simplicity and geometry.
