Outdoor table. Pompeian style.
Hand painted top.
Legs in cast iron.
Dimensions: 77 x 173 x 87 cm.
Outdoor table with hand-painted rectangular top with checkerboard design. The legs, joined with crossbeams, are inspired by Pompeian furniture, specifically those tables from Herculaneum with the base made of lion paw feet or bovine hoofs and the shaft decorated with feline protomes or griffins. It is the same model that inspired the design of this table, following Hellenistic prototypes that could be found in the homes of the wealthier classes, and which in turn were adopted by the Romans, although with added decoration. Popularly known as the delphic table (in reference to the tripod of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi), it was a typology generally made of marble, intended for gardens and other open-air areas. In the case of the table in question, also designed for outdoor use and also covered in white, it evokes Pompeii and Greco-Roman furniture.
