Men's suit; Spain, circa 1780-1790. Embroidered silk and linen areas. Slight wear and restoration to the lining of the jacket (new). Ruffles added to the sleeves with 18th-century lace. The trousers have patches on the leg. Waistcoat with stains and missing spots in the original lining. Provenance: Counts of Sástago. Measurements: 124 x 46 cm (jacket); 73 x 56 cm (trousers). Men's suit made of linen and embroidered silk, probably of Valencian origin. The ensemble consists of a jacket, waistcoat and trousers. The coat is finished in a grid pattern, with embroidery on the lapel and sleeve cuffs. The outer piping, which differs in ornamentation, is decorated with large circular buttons. The trousers also have the same reticulated finish and ornamentation on the ends of each leg. This costume is known as the 'French-style dress', consisting of a jacket, jacket and breeches. As several tracing sheets in the Museo del Traje in Madrid point out, "At the end of the 18th century the "French-style" dress was practically unchanged until it was replaced by other garments around 1830. One element that allows us to situate it chronologically is the strap collar of the jackets, which progressively increased in height during the reign of Charles IV, until it reached its peak under Ferdinand VII".
