*CHINA, Ming Dynasty, 16th century. Rare covered box in cinnabar lacquer. Of octagonal form, originally mounted on a foot, presenting on the whole a rich decoration carved in depth in red lacquer of a scene depicting an assembly of Taoist Immortals, represented outside, in a central medallion on the lid. On the sides, presented in lobed quadrangular cartouches on each side, a decoration of children playing outside under trees in different seasons on the lid, flowery friezes on the border. The interior is black lacquered. H : 23 ; D : 28 cm (missing foot, old restoration). A model of similar shape presented in a sale at Sotheby's, March 22, 2022 in New York, lot 10.
