This plate is a fine example of Fournier's graphic and narrative power, with a dialogue peppered with punchlines worthy of his friend Maurice Tillieux. Fournier's Polynesian landscapes - which include a tribute to the painter Gauguin - are admired, as is his magnificent use of black and white, and his narration, which makes excellent use of Spip's character, while Champignac never hesitates to give the reader a knowing wink.
