Created in 1969, the Comanche series immediately established Hermann as one of the finest Western authors in Franco-Belgian comics. Later than Blueberry's adventures, Red Dust and Comanche are also more contemporary in their treatment. Greg and Hermann are at their best here, after episodes like Le Ciel est rouge sur Laramie. From foreman of the 666 ranch, Red Dust has become the sheriff's deputy, not exactly a job suited to a free spirit... With his pen-and-ink work that brings virtuoso drawing into focus, Hermann is still in the tradition of the Belgian School, but the boldness of his points of view and the power of his narration make him, without question, one of its most brilliant renovators.
