GABRIELLE VINCENT
ERNEST AND CELESTINE
Ernest et Célestine chez le photographe, Éditions Duculot 1982
L'Enquête, original illustration. Watercolor on paper
25.1 × 23.1 cm (9.88 × 9.09 in.)
Photos, memories, life as it used to be, secrets, themes seen from a child's point of view, but which adults can also feel vibrating within them. Ernest had a life before adopting Célestine, and Célestine discovered and resented it; a prelude to all her questions about her origins, which will come in the posthumous album, Les Questions de Célestine. Célestine comes down from her room, all sad, with the photos she's discovered of Ernest's past with lots of "bear" children, and not a single photo of her.
"I've received letters from people to whom I've sent printed material. Emotional letters. How encouraging! To move others." Carnets, August 1980
