Villa of Castelpulci in Scandicci Gouache on canvas 102 x 183 cm (missing and raised) Without frame A sumptuous villa located in the province of Florence and overlooking the Arno valley, the villa of Castelpulci is one of the great Florentine residences that reflects, both in its ornaments and in its outbuildings, the opulence and elegance of the Riccardi family. Purchased in 1321 by Cardinal Napoleone Orsini, the structure of the villa was only slightly modified until the Riccardi family became the owners in 1667. A series of enlargements began under the direction of the Baroque architect Giovacchino Fortini and continued until the 18th century. It was at this time that the spectacular façade, as seen here, was added.
