A fine Maximilian cavalry armour, in the style of 1520 circa dating: Third quarter of the 19th Century provenance: Europe, Closed helmet with skull worked in one piece, with longitudinal fluted decorations and fullers with roped central crest; intact visor, worked in relief depicting a grotesque face with air-holes on the cheeck-pieces, eye-holes in front of the eyes and air-holes in front of the mouth, with spaces between the sharp teeth. Beaver in one piece with neck guard. Nape-guard articulated with three plates Swallow-tailed edge with simple, roped border. With gauntlet and release pressure buttons. Three-plate gorget, neckline with thick, riveted rope. Articulated breastplate with longitudinal fluted decorations. With a relieved plate featuring the letters 'IG / GHAI / GE' on the top part, under the thick neckline. With rest on the right side. Complete brassards; pauldrons with wide throat guards, the right one with slot for the lance rest; the various elements decorated with fluted decorations. Unarticulated gauntlets decorated en suite. Back plate with three-plate culet. Front backpiece with tassets featuring festooned borders, en suite with the gauntlets’ ones. Complete full-leg defense, cuissards with knee-cops with festooned borders. Smooth and ribbed greaves, articulated sabatons with the same decoration as the gauntlets. Mannequin not included. A fine 19th-century work of good quality, very impressive in proportions. height circa 188 cm.
