A rare pair of cased percussion pistols from the Factory of Versailles
dating: 1840 circa provenance: France, Smoothbore, octagonal barrels, richly gold inlaid and marked 'CANON TORDU' among floral motifs, sights surrounded by thunderbolts, 17 mm cal. at the nozzle. Engraved tangs and provided with fixed moulded sight. Forward spring locks, one signed 'MANUFACTURE' and the other 'DE VERSAILLE', outlined borders, hammers engraved with floral motifs. Wooden full stocks with light pitting, finely checkered butts. Beautiful silver mounts engraved with geometric motifs and stamps. Silver-tipped horn ramrods with iron cartridge extractors. In wooden box lined with green velvet and with all tools and key. length 34.5 cm.
