A pair of flintlock pistols by Starbus
dating: about 1690 provenance: Amsterdam, Long, smoothbore, four-stage, 15 mm cal barrels, octagonal at the first part, then decorated with grooves and featuring two round segments, the former with silver rear sight featuring a badge surmounted by a crown, the latter with rib and sight. Beautiful flintlocks signed 'STARBUS AMSTERDAM' (the signature of one lock and some engravings not clearly legible), engraved with a character at the center and carved with a grotesque character at the tang (working mechanisms). Slightly sculpted, wooden full stocks with iron mounts carved with busts, snakes and floral motifs. Pierced counter-plates. Complete with iron-tipped, wooden ramrods.
