A fine holster snaphaunce lock pistol by Gio. Lod.co Buoni dating: third quarter of the 17th Century provenance: Cavriago, Round, smoothbore, 13 mm cal. barrel, tapered towards the nozzle, with thin ribbing at the centre and signature 'LAZARINO COMINAZZO' at the base; smooth tang. Beautiful lock with rounded lock plate carved and engraved with fine floral motifs, partially pierced. Inside signature 'Gio di Lo.co Buoni Cauriago'. Slightly sculpted wooden full stock with steel mounts richly carved with floral motifs in bas-relief, the counterplate pierced with snakes among racemes, other pierced decorations at the trigger guard, trigger and ramrod pipes. On the left side belt hook with ends carved and pierced en suite. Iron-tipped wooden ramrod in the shape of a flower. For Giovanni Ludovico Buoni from Cavriago see 'Repertorio Storico Degli Archibugiari Italiani dal XIV al XX Secolo' by Bruno Barbiroli, p. 143. The signature is on various rifles and pistols, also in combination with Lazarino Cominazzo, several of which are found in the Este armoury in Modena already mentioned in the general inventory of the armoury drawn up in 1797 (Curti 1995). length 47.5 cm.
