An interesting and early snaphaunce lock pistol
dating: second quarter of the 17th Century provenance: North Italy, Smoothbore, octagonal, 13 mm cal. barrel, with frame at the base and floral engravings at the edges; slightly angled tang. Interesting lock with flat plate engraved with floral motifs and with carved end, the hammer with fore-end of rectangular section, the screw hidden by a mask, the wedge screw under the pan carved as a dog's head with grooved body, spring and batterie engraved with floral motifs. Sliding pan cover. Wooden, full stock with faceted butt and iron mounts in the style of the wheel guns. Signs of time and use. Original iron-tipped wooden ramrod and iron cartridge extractors. length 46.5 cm.
