Dark blue morocco, triple gilt fillet framing the boards, smooth spine decorated, spotted edges (period binding). New edition, more complete than the previous ones. It was enlarged by André-Charles Brotier (1751-1798) for the whole work and the translation of Aristophanes, Gabriel de La Porte Du Theil (1742-1815) for Aeschylus, Guillaume Dubois de Rochefort (1731-1788) for Sophocles and Pierre Prévost (1751-1839) of Geneva for Euripides. Beautifully illustrated with a frontispiece and 22 engravings outside the text after compositions by Borel, Defraine, Le Barbier, Maréchal, Marchand, Marillier and Monnet. Beautiful copy in contemporary morocco. Spine faded, several boards partly faded, some discrete scratches and spotting. Missing the false title of volume 1. Tear without missing the N2 leaf of the last volume. Some scattered foxing. Provenance: Montmirail Library, with stamp on titles and last few leaves.
