Portrait de Jacqueline au bandeau, accoudée Colored linocut on Arches-Velin. 1962. 35 x 27 cm (63 x 44.3 cm). Signed "Picasso". Edition of 50 num. Ex. Baer 1306 III B a (of b), Bloch 1081. The final state, printed by Hidalgo Arnéra, Vallauris, published by Galerie Louise Leiris, Paris, 1963. Picasso created more than 400 portraits of his second wife Jacqueline Roque, including several colored linocuts, such as the work presented here. Picasso met Jacqueline, who was only 27 years old, at Madoura in Vallauris in 1953 and lived with her from then on. In 1961 they married. Her striking head with the clearly cut facial features as a recurring motif here turned into a three-quarter profile. The dark eyes, the brows and the thick black hair, which is pushed out of the forehead with a hair band, dominate. She covers her slender neck with her folded hands, on which her chin is supported. Splendid, freshly colored print in four colors, with the full margin. Provenance: Kurbuchhandlung Bernhard Krohn, Badenweiler (acquired there in 1967, copy of the invoice is enclosed) Private property Rhineland-Palatinate
