With curious treatises concerning Upper Ethiopia, the overflow of the Nile, the Red Sea, & the Prete-Jean. Paris, Louis Billain, 1674. First edition of this important compilation of texts, some in original edition (La Borde) and others in French translation. January & February 1671 beginning at Cape Verd. - LA BORDE. Relation of the origin, morals, customs, relation... of the Antilles Islands of America. - Relation of Guiana, and what can be done there. (False title of Blome badly placed at the head). - Description of the Empire of Prete-Jean (sic). Henri Justel, erudite collector was secretary of Louis XIV before being exiled in England at the time of the revocation of the Edict of Nantes. He was then appointed librarian to the king of England and became curator of the King's Library. Complete with the large folding map preceding the Relation de la rivière du Nil, which is often missing. Extremely rare set, complete with all required plates and maps; some minor restorations to the maps.
