First edition. The complete part devoted to the Zoology of this very important mission which took place between 1882 and 1883 within the framework of the first international polar year.
The first volume contains details on mammals (by Milne-Edwards), on ornithology (by Oustralet), on fishes (by Vaillant) followed by a study of comparative anatomy (by Gervais). The next volume gives details on research on insects (by Fairmaire, Signoret, and others), on arachnids (by Simon), on crustaceans (by Milne-Edwards), and on mollusks (by Rochebrunet and Mabille). The third and last part is devoted to priapulids (by de Guerne), followed by bryozoans (by Jullien), echinoderms (by Perrier) and protozoans (by Certes).
