THIS IS THE GENEALOGY OF THE VERY CHRISTIAN KINGS OF FRANCE, who have reigned there since the fra(n)coys came to live on the river Seine. Jusques au roy Fra(n)coys premier de ce nom, le quantiesme en leur ordre & de leur nom.
Paris : Pierre Vidoue for Galliot du Pré, October 27, 1520. large flattened scroll (about 277 x 63 cm), composed of 8 flapped leaves, printed in gothic type, on vellum on one side only, ruled, illustrated and illuminated. Text printed on 6 columns, 2 of which are central and 4 narrower. In the center of each pair of columns, long chain of illustrated "bubbles" linked together. Modern tan morocco box.
Several leaves heavily yellowed, small holes restored and small missing, including a few lines from the colophon to the address (but not the date), small rubs and missing in the backs of the paintings, consolidations at the back of the document.
Provenance:
- From the famous collection of Sir Thomas Phillipps (1792-1872), for which it bears the handwritten mark in brown ink on the verso of the first leaf Phillipps MS 36573. It was probably acquired at the Libri sale in 1859.
