CRISTINO MALLO GONZÁLEZ (Tuy, Pontevedra, 1906 - Madrid, 1989). "In the bar is my psychologist". Relief in bronze. Unique piece. Signed. Size: 36 x 24 cm; 60 x 48,5 cm (frame). A painter and sculptor, Cristino Mallo developed his artistic career in Madrid. He began his training at the School of Arts and Crafts in Avilés, and in 1923 he entered the San Fernando School in Madrid, where his teachers were Capuz and Mateo Inurria. In 1931 he signed the manifesto of the Agrupación Gremial de Artistas Plásticos, and two years later he was awarded the National Sculpture Prize. In 1935 he began teaching at the School of Arts and Crafts in Salamanca. After the Civil War he settled permanently in Madrid, where he continued his work as a teacher at the School of Arts and Crafts between 1966 and 1972. He took part in the National Exhibitions of Fine Arts, being awarded the third medal in 1952 and the first in 1954. During these years his recognition grew, and he achieved international prestige by exhibiting his work in Italy. In 1973 he became a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, and in 1983 he was awarded the Gold Medal for Fine Arts. He is currently represented in the Eduardo Capa Foundation, the Caixa Galicia, the Spanish Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid and other collections, both public and private, and also has important public monuments in Madrid.
