JEAN BAPTISTE PAULIN CALLED PAULIN GUERIN (1783-1855) portrait of Mademoiselle Mante Original canvas and frame H : 81 cm W : 65 cm Number 2214 on the stretcher on the back. Mark of the canvas dealer Belot, rue de l'arbre sec n°5. Old restorations Exhibition : Salon des Artistes Vivants, Paris, 1827, n° 518 : "Portrait of Mlle M.". Expert : Cabinet Turquin Louise Charlotte Théophile Delphine Escoffié, known as Mlle Mante, entered in 1822 as an actress at the Comédie-Française. She She became a member of the institution the following year. The portrait of of the Marquise d'Audiffret by Paulin Guérin was exhibited at the Salon of 1827. In this same exhibition Guérin presents the portrait of three other aristocrats. They are the countess of Marcellus, daughter of the director of the Royal Museums Auguste de Forbin, of the countess Dupont de l'Étang and of the marquise d'Audiffret. The latter practiced painting as a dilettante dilettante thanks to her training in the workshop of Hortense Haudebourt-Lescot's studio in the 1830s.
