Young peasant woman
Important sculpture in bronze with a golden patina, the peasant woman represented standing on a rocky base.

French sculptor born in Dijon and died in Paris, son of Jean-Baptiste Moreau, brother of Hippolyte and Auguste Moreau, he was admitted to the workshops of Jules Ramey and Auguste Dumont at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1841 and made his debut at the Salon des Artistes français the following year with the statue L'Elégie. He then successfully produced decorative objects, statues, candelabras, girandoles, fountains, torchères, basins and also numerous virgins. From 1879 until his death, Mathurin Moreau was mayor of the 19th arrondissement of Paris. Many public spaces in France and abroad still have works by the master.
