1612. Struggling dialogical work that aims to demonstrate, through the use of Kabbalah, that the Hebrew books contained arguments proving the truth of Catholicism and that, consequently, their opposition to Christianity was to be considered fallacious. Also included in this edition is Johannes Reuchlin's (1455-1522) De arte cabbalistica, a work of explanation of the Kabbalah that argues its usefulness for the defense of Christianity and the reconciliation of faith and reason; the treatment is developed in a dialogue between three men: the Jew Simon, the Muslim Marranus and the Pythagorean Philolaus. The volume comes from the library of Claude de Bullion (1569-1640) a state councillor, superintendent of finance and president of the Grenoble parliament who had an elegant palace erected in Paris that still exists today, the H?tel Bullion. Folio, (346 x 215mm). Typographic mark to title page, text in two columns (browned, gora to upper margin not touching text). Coeval bindings in bazzana leather to the arms of Claude de Bullion in gold to the plates and spine accompanied by the collar of the Ordre du Saint-Esprit (restored spine with additions to missing parts). Provenance: Claude de Bullion; De Richebornie Rue-Marne(?) (private stamp on title page not legible) COLONNA, Pietro known as GALATINO (1460-1540). De arcanis catholicae veritatis. Frankfurt: Marne, 1612.
